The caduceus wand is the staff carried by heralds in Greek and Roman mythology, generally associated with the god Hermes and mercury. The symbol is a staff entwined by two serpents, sometimes surmounted by wings. In Roman iconography, it was depicted being carried in the left hand of Mercury, the messenger of the gods. However, the symbol is most likely Mesopotamian in origin.
In one myth Hermes (or Mercury) saw two serpents entwined in mortal combat. Separating them with his staff he brought about peace between them, and as a result a staff with entwined serpents became a sign of peace.
This pendant features entwined snakes protecting a key.
Made from solid bronze with an antiqued finish using the famed lost-wax casting technique, the detailing is precise and deep.
This necklace is attached to a 2 mm black leather string and entirely adjustable with sliding knots, fits securely around the neck and serves as a personal relic or protective talisman. It measures around 3.7cm.
