Renaissance or Late Medieval Folding Chair

This chair was designed by reenactors with comfort and portability in mind. The seat is generously sized, and the backrest is positioned to give good support. The chair is roomy and stable, unlike some other chairs which can be prone to tipping or not large enough for a more generous-sized reenactor.

When it comes to packing away your gear, the back rest slides out, and the body of the chair can be folded flat for transport.

This folding chair is based on the form commonly referred to as a Savonarola, scissor or X-frame chair, a type seen across late medieval and Renaissance Europe. Variations of this design appear in period artwork and surviving examples, particularly in Italy.

It is constructed from solid ash. Ash has long been valued for its toughness and flexibility, which allows the slatted frame to carry weight without becoming brittle

Designed with reenactment and event use in mind, this is a practical interpretation of a historical form: something that can be transported easily, set up quickly, and used comfortably over the course of a full day. It suits medieval camps, markets, and period interiors, while still holding up to regular use.
