Viking Vendel Helm with Camail- 14g
This helmet with ocular visor is inspired by archaeological grave finds at Vendel and Valsgärde in Scandinavia.
This style of helm shares similarities in style with the Gjermundbu Viking helm found in the municipality of Ringerike in Norway and Anglo-Saxon grave finds in England such as the Sutton Hoo burial.
Ocular visor helms in this style are most suitable for Vendel and Viking era reenactment combat.
The helm features an ocular face visor to provide added protection to the face and a long butted mail aventail to protect the neck, shoulder and lower face.
Made from 14 gauge steel the helm has been constructed based on historical spangenhelm designs and is secured with steel rivets for durability.
The helmet has a leather lining suspension with chin strap and brass buckle that can be adjusted to better fit the wearer. The leather liner can be a darker colour in sections due to proximity to the oil from the chain mail. The helm has a circumference of 68cm which enables the wearer to also fit a suitable padded coif or cap. The interior of the helm is blackened to improve corrosion resistance.
