Veil and Clothing Brass Pins - Set of Six
Pins were a vital part of a medieval or renaissance woman’s dress. They were used as a fastening for veils, sleeves, bodices and other items of clothing or accessories. Historically, a woman was given an allowance from her husband to spend on clothing and other household expenses. This became known as ‘pin money’, though it wasn’t expected the entire amount to be sent on pins, pins were more expensive in relative terms than they are today. A thrifty woman might have had her pins straightened rather than replacing them when they were bent!
Our reproduction brass pins are 4cm long and suitable where you need a light-weight pin, such as for veils. They are sold in sets of six and are a much needed dress accessory for reenactment or historical costuming.
