Medieval Men’s Wool Separate Hose

Hosen are a staple in a medieval wardrobe, and these separate hose are perfect for your reenactment, sca or LARP outfit.

Medieval men’s hose come in two main types: joined and separate. Separate hose pre-date joined hose, and consist of two separate legs. Separate hose began being phased out in the late 14th century, first being adapted by the nobility with the style filtering down to the lower classes during the 15th century. So, depending on your persona, these hose are suitable up until the late 14th/early 15th century.

This reproduction is made of 100% recycled wool and is a deep wine red colour.

Historically, wool was the most common fabric for hose. Not only was wool readily available, it has many properties making it ideal for clothing even today:

• The fibres of wool trap air, making it a natural insulator, helping you to stay warm.
• It’s breathable, which means it keeps your warm without overheating
• Wool is warm, even when wet and can shed water, making it a good choice to wear during rain.
• While not waterproof, wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water before it feels wet, which keeps you dry for longer in rain.
• It’s a durable fabric.
• Wool is naturally flame-resistant, and safer to wear than polyester during living history or historical events featuring campfires for warmth and cooking.

These hose consist of two separate legs. They are not footed and come to a point on the upper outside of the leg. This point has two eyelets for tying the hose to your braes/arming belt/ doublet etc. The point is reinforced with some herringbone tape sewn on the inside. The eyelets are handstitched, but all other stitching, including the top stitching, is done on the machine.

Care Instructions: Wool is naturally breathable and resistant to odours. Hand wash or spot clean with mild detergent and lay flat to dry to maintain its shape.

Product includes one pair of separate hose. Lacing ties and other items and accessories not included.
