Kettle Helms With ocular eye slots appear to have been introduced in the late 14th century. During the late 15th century, the style developed to include a moveable face visor similar to a sallet.

Helmets of this style appear to be central European in origin Predominantly German  and French (Burgundian) and are commonly worn with a bevor or mail standard.

Kettle helms with oculars and moveable visors are relatively rare in art work. Most kettle helms with oculars appear to not have a moveable face visor.

This style of helm is most suitable for infantry historical personas.

The kettle-hat or chapeau de fer (French) are commonly depicted in medieval art throughout Europe from the late twelfth century until the Sixteenth century.

The simple construction and effective protective design and of the helm is likely to be the reason for its universal popularity. Earlier depictions of kettle-hats, dating from before the 13th century show the skull constructed from several steel plates riveted together and the brim attached along the lower edge. During the 14th century advances in the production of plate armour led to production of kettle helms made from one or two large pieces of steel.

The helm has a circumference of 68cm which enables the wearer to also fit a suitable padded coif or cap. The interior of the helm is also blackened to improve corrosion resistance. Made from 18 gauge mild steel.
