Make your own Medieval experience and complete your late 15th or 16th  century Milanese plate armour harness with this Italian Sallet (salade) forged from 14 gauge steel. A quality helm with a fully opening visor, articulated plates and locking pin.

This sallet helm is a reproduction of a late 15th century to early 16th century helm currently held by the Wallace Collection (item A72). The original artefact is estimated to have been made in 1500 and 1520 in northern Italy most likely Milan. This style of transitional helm has a distinctive  bellows face and is a combination of Italian and Maximilian style armour. During the 15th century the sallet helmet was either open faced or only partially protected the face. A bevor was worn in combination with the sallet to protect the lower face and neck but this provided limited protection to a thrust aimed between the plates. At the end of the 15th century to early 16th century the design of the sallet changed to cover the full face.

The helm has a circumference of 68cm which enables the wearer to also fit a suitable padded coif or cap. The helmet also has a padded  lining suspension that can be adjusted to better fit the wearer. The interior of the helm is also blackened to improve corrosion resistance.

Suitable for a late 15th century to early 16th century persona at your next Medieval or Renaissance re-enactment, LARP, SCA or Living history event.

Other 15th and 16th century armour also available.
