This “spectacle buckle” or double looped buckle style first came into use in the mid 14^th century. During the 15^th and 16^th centuries spectacle buckles rose in popularity and gradually replaced single loop buckles.

This Buckle is suitable for straps 13mm wide and is well suited for use on medieval shoes and arming clothing such as a gambeson or armour harness strap.
