This cup is a historical reproduction of the Gorm's Jelling Cup Found in Jelling. The original artefact comes from the grave of Danish King Gorm the Old and his wife Queen Thyra. King Gorm was believed to have died around 958. The original cup being only 4.3cm high this artifact is a great example of high quality art from the early medieval period. It features animal motifs and geometric patterns in a fashion often referred to as the Jelling Style. This cup has been scaled up from the original and now holds on average 30ml

Lord of Battles has produced this reproduction from bronze with a lost wax casting technique. The piece is made by sculpting the original design in wax, encasing it in a mold, and replacing the wax with molten bronze. This process gives intricate surface detailing, depth, and variations that cannot be achieved through machine casting. As a result, each goblet has unique textures and engravings shaped by hand.

A small cup that wont break from a short drop! As this is a copper alloy vessel, please take care of it by avoiding putting it in the dishwasher, don’t use steel wool to clean it, avoid leaving liquid in it for long periods of time (especially acidic). Wash with mild soap and dry, then store in a dry location. Rough fabric can be used to clean off early stages of verdigris (blue-green formation on the cup).

Despite its capacity of approx 30 ml, this Bronze goblet has a strong visual presence. It can be used naturally as a medieval cup, a ceremonial ritual cup, and a symbolic bronze chalice for altar display. It may also be used simply as a sculptural bronze cup, for its historical inspiration.

Available in bronze and antiqued bronze finish.
