Bascinet Early to Mid 14th Century Helm (Blackened, 16 Gauge)

Make your own Medieval experience and complete your 14th century armour harness with this reproduction bascinet forged from 16 gauge steel. 

This helmet is a reproduction of a helm that can be seen in a carving in the courtyard of the Bargello Palace in Florence believed to date from between 1320-1325 (shown in the 4th last photo). Another helm can be seen in the Luttrell Psalter Manuscript currently held by the British Library. Date to England beween approximately 1320-1340 (3rd last photo) and also in the Breviarium ad usum fratrum Predicatorum French manuscript held by the Bibliothèque Nationale estimated to date from between 1323-1326 (2nd last photo). The face plate is securely held in the closed position by a metal pin which locks the visor and stops it from moving. When the visor is lifted the same pin locks the visor in the open position.  To release the visor to open or shut simply push the pin back to allow the visor to move. 

The helmet also has a leather lining suspension that can be adjusted to better fit the wearer. The interior of the helm is blackened to improve corrosion resistance.

Suitable for early to mid 14th century Medieval or Renaissance reenactment and Living history.

The helm has a circumference of 68cm which enables the wearer to also fit a suitable padded coif or cap.
