Medieval Dark Green - Archeress Dress

This simple medieval dress can be worn on its own, or used as an underdress (also known as a smock, chemise or shift) which makes it a versatile addition to your wardrobe.

Historically, woman of every class across medieval and renaissance Europe would have worn an undergarment under their dress. Drawing from history, this dress is made with a classic rectangle and triangle construction.  It is ankle length, long sleeved and has a simple rounded neckline, making it appropriate for most medieval periods from the dark ages through the middle ages to the early renaissance.

It’s shape and style makes it a very versatile part of your wardrobe and is suitable for a variety of uses such as reenactment, LARP, SCA, historical or fantasy costumes. 

The body of the dress consists of rectangular panels, with side gores to give some fullness to the skirt. It has a rounded neckline and set-in sleeves. The hem and cuffs are finished with a double fold hem and the neckline is finished with a self-fabric facing, which has been top stitched to stay put. The inside seams are overlocked and topstiched around the armholes. All stitching has been done on the machine.

Care Instructions:

To keep "The Archeress" dress looking sharp, follow these care guidelines:

Washing: Hand wash in cold water or machine wash on a delicate cycle. Turn inside out and wash with like colors to preserve the fabric and prevent color bleeding.

Drying:Hang or lay flat to air dry in the shade, as direct sunlight can cause fading. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as cotton chambray may shrink with heat.

Ironing: Iron inside out on a low heat setting to avoid damaging the fabric. A slightly damp dress or a pressing cloth will help smooth wrinkles without harming the cotton.

Spot Cleaning: For small stains, gently dab with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid scrubbing to maintain the integrity of the fabric.

 Care instructions: Machine wash at 40C. Warm iron. Do not bleach or tumble dry.
