This Anglo Saxon Brooch. Made in the “Trewhiddle” style this a faithful reproduction of one found in 2020 in Cheddar, Somerset. This particular one features plant and geometric designs. Its dating puts it around AD800 to 900.
Found by a lucky metal detectorist on some farmland it has been restored and now lives in the Museum of Somerset.
This piece maintains the detail and beauty of the original but being made in a more modest bronze compared to the silver. Cast in solid bronze using the lost wax method the result is a piece that captured the details of the original.
From the 9th to 11th centuries, round bronze brooches were an essential part of Viking dress, especially for women. They served as both practical closures and symbols of rank. The intricate filigree patterns seen here evolved from early Viking ornamentation into the refined animal and knot designs of the late Norse period. Whether worn singly, paired with another, or used as a display piece, this brooch adds a historically accurate touch to any Viking or Norse-inspired outfit.
