Spangenhelm With Full Butted Aventail (14 Gauge)

Make your own Viking experience and complete your armour harness with this reproduction Spangenhelm helm forged from 14 gauge steel.

Suitable for a wide variety of historical periods from the 6th to 12th century. A popular helm with Viking, crusade and Norman era reenactment and Living history groups.

Designed by Make Your Own Medieval based on feedback from reenactors in Australia who indicated that they wanted more face protection. The helm has a full aventail (camail) which helps to protect the neck, face, and collar bones. The rings start just below the mouth level so breathing is not impeded. Extra rings can easily be added to the face by removing the bottom row of rings on the aventail and adding them to face.  

The helm has an internal circumference of 67cm which enables the wearer to also fit a suitable padded cap. The helmet has a leather lining suspension that can be adjusted to better fit the wearer. The interior of the helm is also blackened to improve corrosion resistance.

The helm weighs approximately 4.28kg.
