Large Medusa Mount

$22.95 AUD
Availability: 10 in stock

This large size mount features a grinning gorgon face with fangs and stylised snakes for hair.

In Greek mythology the Gorgon was a monster with hair of living venomous snakes who could turn those who beheld them into stone. Gorgons are sometimes depicted or described as having wings, claws, tusks or fangs and flared nostrils. The Gorgons were attributed with various magical powers such as the ability to heal, poison or injure.

The Gorgon appears to have been used as a protective symbol or amulet to ward of evil in Greek and Macedonian culture. Symbols of the Gorgon head in grotesque or aggressive expressions with protruding tongues and snakes appear on shields and armour and sometimes on tombstones and on doors.

The most famous Gorgon was Medusa. Medusa was said to have been born a beautiful, mortal woman. She was transformed into a Gorgon by Athena after angering her and was eventually slain by Perseus, who severed her head.

Medusa has often been portrayed as a powerful and mysterious force of chaos and destruction. She represents the unpredictable and untamed nature of life. Her image can be used to represent a cautionary tale or a reminder of danger.

The mount is made from solid brass.

It measures approximately 58mm high by 55mm wide. Please allow some variations due to the handmade nature and manual measurements

The back of the mount has one split pin which you can use to affix the mount.

Depending on what the mount is being attached to using some brass washers or a plate can help to keep the mount in place.

Price includes one mount. Other accessories in photos not included.
