This cotehardie is inspired by an extant 14th century garment, generally referred to as the “Charles de Blois pourpoint.” The pourpoint of Charles de Blois is currently held in the Musee des Tissus et des Arts Decoratif in Lyon, France. It is one of the most well-preserved surviving garments of the 14th century.

The extant item was an arming garment, made of layers of fabric, quilted together. It had 70 buttons which fastened the front, and each sleeve. The sleeves were made of multiple pieces, including special tailoring around the shoulder and armhole, known as “grande assiette” sleeves, which allowed the wearer to move their arms freely and easily.

This reproduction is designed as a fashion garment for 14th century reenactors, or others who wish to replicate a 14th century persona. It is not quilted, but is fully lined. The outer fabric is 100%linen in a natural colour and the lining is 100% cotton canvas.

Natural linen isn't pure white, it can vary in colour from a light ecru through to darker shades such as pale grey or brown.

The sleeves are cut in the “grande assiette” style, making it comfortable to wear and offering free movement. The sleeves do not have buttons. The garment closes up the front with self-fabric buttons, which were popular throughout the middle ages, and the close spacing of the buttons is seen not only on the extant inspiration garment, but also in countless medieval artworks.

Material: Outer layer 100% Linen, Inner Layer 100% cotton canvas

The "Charles de Blois" Pourpoint combines historical accuracy, comfort, and eco-conscious materials, making it a perfect addition to your medieval wardrobe for reenactments, LARP, or living history events.
