Siefredus was a late 9th century Norse – Gael Viking King of Northumbria who ruled from approxiamtely 895 until 900. Little is known of the rule of Siefredus in England. Coins bearing this name appear in the Cuerdale Hoard and also appear with the name of King Canut on the same coin. There was most likely a period when the two kings minting concurrently as there is also a close style between the coins.

It has been proposed that King Siefredus and king Sigfrith are the same person known under different names depending on the language of the locality. Siefredus was a Viking from Northumbria who led a Viking fleet against Wessex in 893 and also claimed kingship of Dublin (Ireland). It is also likely that he reigned in York between 895 – 899 as several of his coins show mint markings of the city of York.

These coins are hand-stamped by a passionate reenactor who performs historical coin minting demonstrations. As each coin is hand stamped small variations may exist adding to the hand made character of the coins.

Made from high-quality pewter.

Cards and dice also available separately.
