German Gold-Gulden Coin (1436 to 1449)

This coin is a reproduction of a 15th century German Gulden coin estimated to have been minted between 1436 to 1449 in the Netherlands.

This style of coin is very similar to the coins recovered from the ship wreck of the Hanneke Wrome which sank off the coast of Finland in 1468. The Hanneke Wrome was one of two ships that left Luebeck, Germany, for Tallinn, Estonia, in 1468 loaded with gold coins and jewellery.

The face of the coin features a bishop in full regalia and the reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the cities of Deventer, Kampen and Zwolle within a circle with an inscription.

These coins are hand stamped by a passionate reenactor who performs historical coin minting demonstrations. As each coin is hand stamped small variations may exist adding to the hand made character of the coins.

Made from high quality nugold jewellers brass sheet. Nugold has a higher copper content that standard brass giving it its rich yellow gold colour.
