Making a belt from scratch or adding a finishing touch to one you already have? This decorative brass strap end is suitable for belts between 15 mm wide. Made from solid bronze the fitting is approximately 5 cm in length and 1.5cm in width. This buckle is most suitable for early middle ages, Viking and Rus era belts.
This historic replica is a reproduction of an extant fitting from the 9th to 10th century from the Gnezdovo grave site. Distinctive Borre Viking art style.
Made from solid bronze using the ancient lost-wax casting method. This technique begins with a detailed wax model of the clasp, hand-sculpted to include the smallest ridges and scales of the animal heads. The wax is encased in a heat-resistant mold. When fired, the wax melts and leaves a hollow cavity. Molten bronze is then poured into the void, capturing every contour of the original wax sculpture.
This labour-intensive process—unchanged since the Viking and Roman eras—ensures that no two clasps are exactly alike. Subtle nuances in form and patina speak to the individuality and historical integrity of each piece. The final result is a richly textured fastener that fuses durability with authentic design.
Available in antiqued finish and polished finishes.
Includes two brass washers.
