Roman Legionnaire Balteus Plaque Sword Belt

This belt is inspired by Roman soldier's balteus sword belts.

Similar to later 14th century plaque belts this style of belt has 12 large mounts which are made from 100% brass.

The belt has a Varian scroll fibula buckle with hinged plate and wide tongue. This style was worn during the 1st and early 2nd century.

Highly decorative military belts were a sign of status in Roman military society and worn to represented rank or honours received.

Such a belt would have been used to hold a gladius sword and pungio dagger.

The belt measures 132cm in length and 5.3cm in width. This is a heavy belt weighing approximately 1000 grams.
