Lamellar is made from hundreds of small metal plates laced into horizontal rows with successive rows laced together. Lamellar originated in Asia and spread to Eastern Europe, Russia and Byzantium. Viking traders carried Lamellar to Scandinavia from trade with Byzantium and Russia.

A gravesite at Kertch in Crimea in Ukraine approximately 6th century Avar Rus tribe
Lombardic or Byzantine Lamellar armour from Castel Trosino necropolis located in Italy. Tomb 119. Estimated to be from the 7th century.
