The original artefact comes from the grave of Danish King Gorm the Old and his wife Queen Thyra. King Gorm was believed to have died around 958. The original cup being only 4.3cm high this artifact is a great example of high quality art from the early medieval period. It features animal motifs and geometric patterns in a fashion often referred to as the Jelling Style.
