Do you know a person who has a passion for fishing, boating or naval history? Give them a gift they can use, that won’t just sit on a shelf. The key ring features a functional bosun’s whistle with a thread tightening oval ring to secure your keys.

A boatswain's call or bosun's whistle is a pipe used aboard naval ships by officers to convey orders. Pipes of this style first appeared in the 18th century and were descended from flutes used by the ancient Romans, Carthaginians and Greeks to convey orders to oarsmen. Bosun’s whistles continue to be used today in many ceremonial military events.

Because of the high pitch of the Bosun's whistle, it could be heard over the activities of the crew and weather conditions. The whistle was named after the boatswain who was the officer in charge of the rigging and is worn as a badge of rank of the Quartermaster, Chief Boatswain's Mate, and Boatswain's Mate and also in the Sea Cadets.

The whistle measures 9cm by 2.5cm and includes a 6.8cm long chain. Made from 100% brass.
