Ave Maria Brooch
Based on original London finds from the 13th and 14th century. Annular devotional brooches such as these were worn as protective talismans to provide protection from evil by invoking the protection of the Virgin Mary. The inscription on the brooch is in Latin and reads Ave Maria gracia plena which translates to Hail Mary full of grace.
This brooch clasp is most appropriate for clothing and costume between 1250-1420.
